Oliver D. Abanto, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at University of the Philippines Los Banos. Dr. Abanto has either published or presented twenty two scientific articles in various refereed journals or scientific meetings. He is recognize as Meat Science expert at the Institute of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, University of the Philippines Los Banos. He also worked as Visiting Researcher at Hankyong National University, South Korea where he studied various functional foods regulating adipogenesis and bone development. He was the Vice-Chairman of the Technical Working Group that develop Philippine Grading Standards for Slaughter Cattle and Carabao. Dr. Abanto conducted researches on carcass and meat evaluation of carabaos and their crossbreds, characterization of carcass and meat of Philippine native pigs, modulating adipogenesis using various plant extracts and dietary supplements, and modulating bone metabolism using soybean products. He is currently working on researches towards meat technology development.
