Biography

Dr. Matiyar Rahaman Khan is a Professor at Division of Nematology, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, India. He is a Principal Scientist (Nematology) of the research team, Nematode Biosystematics responsible for the identification of plant and soil nematodes. In addition, he oversees academic activities (Post Graduate) in the Division of Nematology and leads interactions with students and their chairpersons for designing research plans, monitoring student's progress, and award of M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. He has over 22 years of experience in teaching, research, and extension that includes collaborative research on nematode taxonomy, management, and awareness campaign. He worked as Professor in Agricultural Entomology) Nematology at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), State Agriculture University (SAU), India since 2012. In 1997, he was appointed as Lecturer in Nematology at the BCKV, SAU, India. Later, he was promoted as Senior Lecturer in 2001, as Reader in 2006 and as Associate Professor in 2009 at the BCKV, SAU, India.

He received his B.Sc.(Ag) Hons in Agriculture in 1992 at the Palli Siksha Bhavana (Institute of Agriculture), Sriniketan, Visva-Bharati University, (Santiniketan), West Bengal, India. He earned M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Nematology from IARI, New Delhi, India in 1994, and 1997, respectively. He further obtained M.Sc. in Ecology & Environment in 2003 from Sikkim Manipal University, India.

Dr. Khan's current interests are on the teaching of Nematology, researches on Nematode Biosystematics, Nematode Mapping and Nematode Management in crops, and extending pest advisory services to farmers on Crop Protection Problems.
