Dr. Sadegh Vaez-Zadeh received the B.Sc. degree from Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran in 1985 and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada, in 1993 and 1997 respectively, all in Electrical Engineering. He has been with several research and educational institutions in different positions before joining the University of Tehran as an Assistant Professor in 1997 where he became an Associate Professor in 2001 and a full Professor in 2005. He has served the University as the Head of Power Division from 1998 to 2000 and currently is the Director of Advanced Motion Systems Research Laboratory which he founded in 1998 and the Director of Electrical Engineering Laboratory since 1998. His research interests include Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Wireless and Contact Less Power Transfer, Rotary and Linear Electric Machines and Drives and Electric Vehicles. He has authored or co-authored over 150 research papers including about 70 journal papers in these areas and holds a US patent. Dr. Vaez-Zadeh is an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion. He is also a member of editorial board of International Journal on Power System Optimization and a founding member of the editorial board of Iranian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He has been active in international sponsored conferences as General Chair, member of Technical and Steering Committees, Session Chair, etc. Prof. Vaez-Zadeh is the President of Power Electronics Society of Iran. He has received a number of awards domestically including a best paper award from Iran Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in 2001 and a best research award from the University of Tehran in 2004. He has also been awarded an International Khwarizmi Award and the first prize of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) in 2011. He has recently received an international standing award from the University of Tehran for his outstanding international cooperation.
