Biography

Shaimaa Helmy (MD), Researcher of Medical Parasitology, Immunology and Drug Evaluation Department, Theodor Bilharz Research Institute (TBRI). Dr. Shamiaa graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University (2003) and received her M.Sc. and M.D. in 2010 and 2013, respectively from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University.
Dr. Shaimaa research interests are focused on molecular diagnosis of parasites of medical importance specially those affecting gastrointestinal tracts of humans such as opportunistic protozoa which is affecting immunocompromised individuals, finding out novel bioactive anti-parasitic chemo-preventive and chemo-therapeutic agents from the medicinal plants or synthetic drugs alone or conjugated with nanoparticles, as well as investigating the potential association of some parasitic diseases with the development of gastrointestinal tumors. Dr. Shaimaa is participating in many internal research projects funded by TBRI and published research articles in peer reviewed national, international journals and conferences. Dr. Shaimaa is currently supervising on some M.Sc. and M.D. thesis. Dr. Shaimaa is working as a member in Technology, Innovation and Commercialization Office (TBRI-TICO) and Council Secretory for Immunology & Drug Evaluation Department.
