Biography

Dr. Ganiyat Kehinde, OLOYEDE attended University of Ibadan, B.Sc Chemistry (1992), M. Sc Pharmaceutical Chemistry (1997), and PhD in Pharmacy (2005) in the faculty of Pharmacy at the same University. She proceeded to National Open University of Nigeria (2014 – 2015) to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). She obtained Certificates in Conflict Analysis Course from The United State Institute of Peace (2015), in United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) (2016), United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) General Awareness of Hazardous Materials (2016), Laboratory Safety and Chemical Hygiene (2016), Human Health - Diet and Nutrition (2016), Research Writing in Sciences (2019) and Achieving Sustainable Development Goals on Water and Sanitation (2021).

She is a recipient of many awards, Bashorun MKO Abiola Postgraduate Fellowship (2000), Third World Organisation for Women in Science Fellowship (2003), MacArthur Foundation (Start-up Research Grant) (2010), Senate Research Grant (2010), ICCBS-The World Academy of Science (TWAS) Fellowship (2015), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) Institution Based Research grant (2016), University of Ibadan Conference Support Fund (2018). Recipient of a 2019, 2020 and 2021 Chemistry Festival Grant of the American Chemical Society’s (ACS), American Chemical Society’s International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT) Activity Grant (2019), and American Chemical Society’s International Student Activity Grant (2019) and 2020 and 2021 Programming grant of ACS.

She is a member of many professional bodies, Member, Institute of Chartered Chemist of Nigeria, Chemical Society of Nigeria, Scientific Officers Association of Nigeria, Organisation for Women in Science for the Developing World, Italy, American Chemical Society, USA, Congress of Essential Oil Distillers of Nigeria (CEODAN) and Asian Council of Science Editors. Her research interest includes Natural Product Chemistry Research and Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry. She has over 70 published academic journals to her credit. She is still actively engaged in many collaborative research activities. She has attended many workshops and conferences and delivered papers in different fields ranging from education, food, pharmaceutical and Natural product chemistry research both locally and internationally. She has also served as a resource person in a number of workshops.

Her work experience has spanned over the years. She worked briefly as a Chemistry teacher during the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Government College Ekori, in Cross Rivers State, Nigeria 1993-1994. She proceeded to Government Technical College, Oyo in Oyo State as an Education Officer/Chemistry Lecturer (1994 – 1997). Her assignments included lecturing and carrying out practical sessions and performing other administrative duties. In 1997, she transferred her appointment to Ministry of Health Department of Food, Drugs and Laboratory Services (Public Health Laboratory) Jericho, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria as a Scientific Officer and rose to the rank of Chief Scientific Officer/Acting Assistant Director, a position she held until her transfer to Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan, Nigeria as a Chemistry Lecturer in April 2008. While at the Ministry of Health, she was engaged in a number of activities: Chemical and microbial analysis of water, food and drugs, scientific investigation and other analytical duties relevant to safety and quality of food, drugs and water, routine surveillance of all water schemes including boreholes in the state, supervising and training junior officers in the Laboratory, designing and supervising experiments and evaluating results, giving lectures and training students on Industrial Attachment from Higher Institutions and performing other administrative duties. She was seconded to the Office of the then Wife of the State Governor in 2001 as a Programme Officer/Project Supervisor for “Health is Wealth Programme” . She later joined the Department of Chemistry, University of Ibadan, her Alma matter in 2008 where she is till date. She is presently a Reader in the organic Chemistry Unit. Her scope of activities includes lecturing and research and performing many other administrative duties. She is also a facilitator/Supervisor for chemistry courses at the at the National Open University of Nigeria, Ibadan Study Centre Oyo State as well as the Faculty Advisor for the American Chemical Society Student Chapter of University of Ibadan. Her co – curriculum activities are reading and writing short stories. Dr Ganiyat Oloyede is a dynamic, intelligent and versatile young lady. Her community service ranges from being adviser/consultant/analyst to producers of herbal medicine amongst others. She is married and blessed with children.
