Biography

Marulak Simarmata, Ph.D. is an Professor inDepartment of Agroecotechnology, University of Bengkulu, Indonesia. He got his bachelor degree in Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Michigan State University, USA. Now, he is teaching some courses for undergraduate level including Weed Science and Weed Control, Plant Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Methodology of Research, and for graduate level he is teaching Plant Biotechnology and Analysis of Environmental Policy. His research is focused on weed management for food crops (annual) and perennial crops in the province of Bengkulu. Adoption of new technology in agricultural practices is emphasized in his research in order to increase crop yield on the farmer level. He had experience as a Post Doctoral Research Associate from 2004 to 2007 in the Department of Crop and Soil Science, Michigan State University, USA. In collaboration with Professor DONALD PENNER, Ph.D., he has two International Patents in USA (US 7 906709 B2, March 2011, and US 2013/0157340 A1, Jun.20 2013). He has published more than 50 scientific papers either presented in conferences or published in International and National Peer Reviewed Journals. He is a recognized weed scientist with expertize in herbicide resistance and molecular based on herbicide resistance which is indicated by his published papers in Weed Science and Weed Technology Journals. He is also an international peer reviewer for International Plant and Soil Science Journal/IPSSJ, and for Agrivita, Journal of Agricultural Science. He was a member of the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) from 1989 to 2007, North Central Weed Science Society (NCWSS) from 1990 to 2007, and Weed Science Society of Indonesia (WSSI) since 2015. He supervised 5 M.Sc. students for writing thesis and more than 100 undergraduate students.
