Biography

Dr. Sukanta Mondal is currently working as Principal Scientist at National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology (ICAR), Bangalore. He completed his Ph. D. from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly on “Molecular characterization of prostaglandin synthase genes in buffalo” and did Postdoctoral assignment from University of Laval, Canada. He has been working in the field of molecular endocrinology and reproductive genomics for last 20 years. His major research interests includes maternal recognition of pregnancy, cloning, characterization and expression of genes, understanding the mechanism of action of hormone on the reproductive tract, molecular characterization and expression of hormone receptors, cell signaling, understanding of mechanism that regulate ovarian follicular development etc. He has done pioneering and path breaking contributions in reproductive genomics of buffalo and sheep. He has published over 40 papers in various National and International journals of repute and delivered invited lectures in different conference throughout the country. Dr. Mondal has been bestowed with several fellowships including National Scholarship (Govt. of India), S J Jindal Trust fellowship, Junior Research Fellowship (NDRI) and Senior Research Fellowship (IVRI). Dr. Mondals work in hormone receptor and buffalo genomics has been recognized nationally and has received several prestigious awards like Rashtriya Gaurav award (2014), Siri Research award (2014), Achiever’s award (2014), Best citizen of India award (2014), Prof. G.
