Biography

Dr. Mark Lee Witten is currently working as Research Assistant Professor in Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Tucson, Arizona and Director of Odyssey Research Institute, Tucson, Arizona. He has obtained his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA in 1983. He has completed his Postdoctoral training as Research Associate in Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Tucson, Arizona. He also appointed as Women’s Track Coach in Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, and Assistant Biologist in Pulmonary Unit, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, and Instructor in Medicine in Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, Scientific Investigator at Shriners’ Burns Institute, Boston, Massachusetts. He also served as member of many scientific committees. He also delivered number of invited lectures. He is also serving as reviewer for several scientific journals. He is member of editor board in Aviation, Space and Environmental Medicine and Inhalation Toxicology. He is professional member of American Physiological Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, The New York Academy of Sciences, Society of Toxicology, American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics, and International Society of Olympic Historians. Dr. Mark Lee received honors includes Distinguished Alumni Award, Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Second Edition. His main area of research interest focuses on Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Lung chemical mediators and cells involved in Lung Injury, Environmental Toxins and their effect on lung function, Environmental toxins and the development of cancers, and Microgravity and its effect(s) on fluid distribution/balance. He also worked on several funded research projects as principal investigator and co-investigator. He has published 172 research articles in journals, 159 abstracts, and 122 presentations and services in societies contributed as author/co-author.
