Eman Swelam is associate Professor of Pesticides and Toxicology in the Department of Economic Entomology and Pesticides at Cairo University. She received her B.S. in Entomology and Pesticides (Pesticides minor) from Cairo University (with honor) .Received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Entomology and Pesticides (Pesticides minor), with specialization in insecticide toxicology and environmental toxicology.
She has received the Canada-Egypt-McGill Agricultural Response Program scholarship, McGill University, Canada for M.Sc. study and Deutscher Akademisher Austauschdienst scholarship, Bonn University, Gemany for Ph. D. Study
She has been on the faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University since 1990 as administrator, 1997 as assistant lecturer, 2003 as lecturer and 2009 as associate professor in the Department of Economic Entomology and Pesticides.
She teaches in 4 graduate courses: Insecticide Toxicology, Pesticides in the Environment, Special Topics in Biomarkers and ioindicators, Bioassay of pesticides, and integrated pest management. She teaches in 2 post graduate courses: Pesticides formulation and new trend in pests control. Eman has served as associate professor for 5 postgraduate students, plus 2 current and served as student’ adviser for 5 undergraduate students (graduate project)
Eman’s research program includes two main areas: (1) insect toxicology and (2) environmental toxicology and environmental chemistry of pesticides. Her research in the toxicology area is focused primarily on insect resistance and effect of insecticides on biochemical aspects of insect and mammals, including investigations of their spectrum of activity, metabolism, besides Natural products and its biological effects and Pesticides residues and pollutants analysis. Her scientific publications include a book “pesticides environmental pollution”, 17 research articles and an online course “Introduction to Biological Sciences”, Egyptian E-learning University, Cairo. She is Reviewer in OMICS Group Journals.
She has worked as Quality manager of the Environmental Chemistry & Natural Resources Lab. (ISO/ IEC/17025 accredit), Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University. She has worked for a long time on development and quality of the e-courses in the higher education and distance learning. She has been on the e-learning center at Cairo University since 2003 and served as director of the e-learning center in Cairo University for six years, since 2009 until now she is the manager of the e-learning project “Improving the quality of using ICT in education” in Cairo University.
