Abdrabbo A. Shehata has 28-years of experience in agricultural water management, irrigation systems and technology, and renewable energy applications. He has a B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering and M.Sc. in renewable energy applications for pumping water and irrigation from Minufiya University, Egypt. He has advanced studies from CIHEAM-IAMB, Bari, Italy in sustainable agricultural development. He has a Ph.D. in microirrigation systems for crop production from Minufiya University, Egypt. He also has Post Doctorate Studies in renewable energy applications for supplying services to rural areas and remote communities from the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural University of Athens, Greece. Dr. Shehata is the founder of the Hybrid Irrigation Method for food security and rural income sustainability in Africa. Also, he is the inventor of the multi-outlet irrigation system for water savings and best-management practices in rice production.

He has good experience with environment-related issues including monitoring and assessment of reuse of low-quality water in agriculture. He also has good experience with deficit irrigation planning and management as an agricultural water management system, and water management and irrigation systems under greenhouses.

He has an educational background in integrated water resources management and irrigation systems at large-scale level, moreover, applications of GIS, RS, GPS, optimization, modeling, and expert systems in agricultural water/irrigation and energy management. He also has extensive experience in multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teams.

He has participated in different training programs and courses varying from training of irrigation engineers and managers of experiment stations on the efficient design, operation, and management of irrigation systems and best management practices of agricultural water management to training of farmers and new graduates on the application of irrigation systems and technologies, renewable energy applications for rural areas and remote communities, and formation of water user associations.

Experiences gained through participating in projects with national and international organizations and consultants; these projects funded by local and multinational financiers such as the Social Fund for Development (Egypt), the World Bank, KfW (Germany), CIHEAM-IAMB, Bari (Italy), EU, FAO, USDA-ARS (USA), UN, USAID (Egypt), Science and Technology Development Fund, STDF (Egypt) and PepsiCo Foundation (USA). These projects were implemented in various regions nationwide and internationally such as the Nile Delta, Sinai, and the South Valley (Toshka), Athens (Greece), Colby - Kansas (USA), Mali, Brazil, India, South Sudan and China
