Dr. El-Sayed Abdou Zaki Khafagy is currently working as Assistant Professor in Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Suez Canal University, Egypt. He obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Hoshi University, Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan in 2010. He also worked as Graduate Research Assistant at Toray Industries, Inc., New Frontiers Research Labs., Kanagawa, Japan, Senior Researcher Scientist, Visiting Scholar and Postdoctoral Researcher Fellow of The Nagai Foundation Tokyo, Kobe Gakuin University, and The University of Michigan USA. He also received number of honor and award includes JASSO Visiting Scholar Award for Research Fellowship in Japan, Fulbright Scholar Program Award for Postdoctoral Fellowship in USA, The Nagai Foundation Tokyo Research Grant Award for Young Assistant Researcher of Postdoctoral Fellowship in Japan, The Best Oral Presentation Award in 23rd Annual Meeting & Exposition of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Japan, and Egyptian Government Ph.D. scholarship Award. His research area focuses on the Development of Drug Delivery Systems that enhances the Therapeutic Activity of the Incorporated Macromolecular Therapeutics (proteins and peptides), primarily through Non - parenteral routes of Administration. He follows two Parallel Approaches to achieve this Goal. First, he aims to better understand the effect of various Natural Materials and Endogenous Substances on the Mechanism(s) of Transport of Small Molecules, Macromolecules, and Polymeric Drug Delivery Systems across Epithelial Membrane. Second, he rationally Design Drug Delivery system including Polymeric carriers that can effectively exploit established Transport Mechanisms to Communicate with the different Epithelial Barriers to deliver their Therapeutic Cargo to the Diseased Tissues. He has 15 publications in journals and 13 papers in peer review conferences contributed as author/co-author. He is also supervising 1 PhD and 9 MSc thesis. He is professional member of Egyptian Society of Pharmaceutical Science (ESPS), Egyptian Syndicate of Pharmacists, Academy of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Japan (APSTJ), The Japan Society of Drug Delivery System (DDS), The Japanese Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (JSSX), and Fulbright Egyptian Scholar Program.
