Biography

Dr Daniel Awomukwu is currently a forensic scientist at the Centre for Forensic Science, Glasgow, United Kingdom, and an Associate Member of the Chartered Society for Forensic Sciences (CSOF). He possesses additional professional qualifications in Linux and Oracle Database Administration from the Nigerian Institute of Information Technology (NIIT) and Proficiency of Management from the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).

He obtained his Bachelor degree in BSc. Biological Science from Michael Okpara University, Umudike. He holds a postgraduate degree in M.Sc. Biotechnology from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers, Nigeria, and PhD. Molecular Genetics and DNA Barcoding with additional professional training in DNA sequencing from the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa. He further obtained an M.Sc. Forensic Science from the University of the Strathclyde, Glasgow and currently works as a Research Assistant and Demonstrator in the university with specialization in forensic genetics, blood pattern analysis, and fingerprint interpretation.

He has attended professional training in forensic investigation, case strategy and document reporting at the Centre of Forensic Science. Other forensic skills he obtained during his professional training included: biological and chemical presumptive and confirmatory test analysis, solution analysis, electrostatic deposition analysis (ESDA) of documents, video spectral comparator (VSC) analysis of items, thin layer chromatography of substances, micro-spectroscopy and microscopy of fiber evidence, glass refractive index measurement (GRIM) and casting impression evidence analysis. He has also received further training in the verification of evidence and crime scene investigation from the Scottish Police College.

He bears testimony in the Glasgow Sherriff Court in crime-related matters as an expert witness and has also published numerous international journals and textbooks with conference articles presented in Nigeria, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
