Biography

Dr. Ubokudom Okon is an Agricultural Production Economist, a researcher & Lecturer at the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Nigeria. He obtained his bachelor of Agriculture degree in Agricultural Economics and Extension from the University of Calabar, in 2004, a Master of Science degree in 2010 and a Ph.D. in 2014, all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He joined AKSU after working for almost a decade as a freelance consultant and an independent policy think tank. Dr.Ubokudom Okon directs and undertakes research related to Agricultural Economics, Agricultural marketing, Environmental impact assessment, Urban and Rural Development. His research expertise centers on Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa and African development policy and practice, with particular interest in Resource use efficiency, Food and Nutrition security, Rural Development, Urbanization, Climate change, Organic agriculture, Agricultural development policy, Environmental sustainability and Institutional adaptation to climate change. Dr Ubokudom Okon has published widely in peer reviewed local and international journals and he is well known in policy making circles in Nigeria & sub-Saharan Africa. He has ten years of teaching experience and he is a regular speaker at local and international conferences. Also, he has skills in facilitation and capacity building with keen interest in research and projects aimed at raising agricultural productivity in sub-Saharan Africa. He has authored, published and/or presented over 40 articles and technical reports. Between 2017 and 2018 he was involve with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and Harvest Plus Nigeria, sponsored research and evaluation project on the perception of rural people on biofortified yellow cassava (Vitamin A Cassava (VAC) in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He is the current Assistant National Secretary of Farm Management Association of Nigeria (FAMAN), an active member of Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN), International Association of Agricultural Economist (IAAE), A fellow of the International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISSD) Japan, Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Academy (ANHA). Also, he is the current Business/Managing Editor of the AKSU Journal of Agricultural Economics, Extension and Rural Development (AKSUJAERRD).
