Biography

Dr. Claire D`Andre Hirwa holds a position of Senior Researcher in Animal Production, and Head of Large Stock Program Department of Research at Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB). She has completed her Ph.D. in Animal Breeding, Genetics and Reproduction from South China Agricultural University, China. Previously she was appointed as Lecturer at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and member of Taxonomy group of Animal genetic resources. She is author and co-author of 14 journal articles. She also supervised 8 undergraduate students’ projects. Dr. Claire received honors includes South China Agricultural University Foreign student Excellency 1st Prize, and Government Distinguished international students scholarship for PhD studies. Her main area of research interest focuses on Biotechnology research and its application in the livestock industry, mainly quantitative traits locus (QTL) and gene markers, Estimation of genetic and phenotypic parameters and breeding values; designing breeding programs, and research in the areas of animal breeding. She also participated in 4 research projects.
