Biography

Professor Ayana Angassa Abdeta a former staff member of the School of Animal and Range Sciences at Hawassa University and currently working as an Associate Professor at the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Department of Range and Forest Resources. He obtained his PhD. in Rangeland Ecology from Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway in 2007. His professional interest focuses on Rangeland Ecology and Management, Dryland Ecosystem Ecology, Pastoral/Agro-pastoral systems, Range-livestock systems, Environment and Development Studies, Land Use Systems, Determinants of African Savannas, Environmental History, Natural Resource Management, Effects of Drought and Drought Management Policy, Restoration of Degraded Lands, Community-based Knowledge, Role of Traditional Institution in Natural Resource Management, Bush Encroachment/invasive Plants, Fire Ecology, Human Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change, Food Security. His working experience includes work as Manager of Borana Cattle Breed Conservation and Improvement Ranch in Borana, Southern Ethiopia, Acting Head, Lecturer and Assistant Professor at Debub University, Ethiopia, Research Fellow at Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway, Assistant Scientist at the University of Oslo, Norway, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Head at Hawassa University, Ethiopia, and Post Doctoral Researcher at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany and the University of Cologne, Germany. He also received grants for research projects. He supervised 11 MSc and 8 Ph.D. and several external Masters Students. He also worked as a coordinator in many specific scientific projects. He is a professional member of the Ethiopia Society of Animal Production, Pastoral Network in Ethiopia, Ethiopian Educated in Norway, and Teachers Association at Hawassa University. He is also a member of many committee assignments. He also participated in national and international courses, workshops, conferences, and study tours. He has 32 publications in journals, 7 articles in process, and 16 proceedings, book chapter, conference presentation, and other contributions as author/co-author. He is also serving as a reviewer in a number of journals. He is a member of the editorial board in the Science Technology and Arts Research journal (Wollega University).
