Biography

I hold a PhD in Fisheries Science from Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya, MSc in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (Aquaculture) and a degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from Moi University, Eldoret, Kenya. I have 12years of research experience, aquaculture management and program coordination in the aquaculture sector. I havepublished 33 scientific publications in peer-refereed journals, over 18conferenceproceedings and have supervised several students attached to the stations where I have worked at NARDTC Sagana. I am a member of scientific bodies including Sustainable Aquaculture Research Networks in Sub-Saharan Africa (SARNISSA) and East African Austrian Water Association (EAAWA). I have experience withinternationaland regional organizations such as UK Research and Innovation, London International Development Centre (LIDC), Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR-UOS), Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in East and Central Africa(ASARECA), and VicRes-IUCEA in the area of fisheries and aquaculture. Currently, I am a Research Scientistat KMFRI, based at the National Aquaculture Research Development and Training Centre and I have served as aResearch officer with Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), from April, 2009 to date.I have worked as the Program coordinator aquaculture fresh water systems in KMFRI from October 2013 to July, 2014where I wasin charge of supervision and coordination of research activities being undertaken in the program and performance evaluation of researchers in the program. I am the National coordinator of the fish seed quality assessment in the country for both private and public fish hatcheries where my responsibilities are monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the hatcheries, coordinating the development of Tilapia and Catfish seed standards and authentication of new hatcheries; which has led to the supply of seed to meet the demand of fish seed across the country. I am also a member of the National technical team responsible for the development of the Manual of Standard Operating Procedure for Fish Inspection and Quality Assurance for Fish business operators in Kenya. Additionally am a technical member of the East Africa Community taskforce on development of technical guidelines for fish seed in East Africa Community. I have been a resource person in training of fish farmers, Hatchery managers, processors, traders, students and government extension officers in Good aquaculture practices, Sanitary and phytosanitary requirements in Aquaculture, Ornamental fishery, Seed production and hatchery management, Aquaculture entrepreneurship, Aquaculture economics, Aquaculture nutrition, Fish health management and general aquaculture management. I have previously served as a research assistant at CARE Kenya an international NGO dealing in small holder livelihood projects.
