Biography

Egas Jeremias Nhamucho is a Mozambican young scientist, working at the Mozambican Agricultural Research Institute (IIAM) as maize breeder. He holds a PhD from University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, completed in 2020. He is working at IIAM for 13 years in National Maize Program, on breeding and Evaluation for different stress (drought, diseases and pests). After his master he joined WEMA project as maize breeder and leading the product deployment team while leading some research projects under the African Productivity Program for Southern Africa (APPSA), on breeding and demonstration for some available technologies for farmers. In breeding the main focus for the different projects were development of inbred and hybrids resistant for major foliar maize diseases in Mozambique including maize lethal Necrosis and also resistant to storage pests, mainly maize weevil and larger grain borers. In his PhD research was focusing on genetics for combined drought and maize lethal necrosis.
