Prof. Mohamed Khayet is Director of the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) Research Group: Membranes and Renewable Energy affiliated to Campus Moncloa of International Excellence. He is Professor of Thermodynamics, Statistical Physics, General Physics and Renewable Energy Applications at the Department of Applied Physics I, Faculty of Physics, University Complutense of Madrid (UCM). He is also Associated Researcher in IMDEA Water (Madrid Institute of Advanced Studies on Water, Alcalade Henares, Spain). He got his degree in Physical Sciences (1990) from the Faculty of Sciences, University Cadi Ayyad of Marrakech (Morocco) and has a Ph.D. (1997) in Physics from the UCM. He received doctoral and postdoctoral grants from different institutions, e.g. Spanish Ministry of External Affairs (AECI), UCM, Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, etc. He realized various stays in different international institutions as Visiting Researcher (Industrial Membrane Research Institute in Ottawa Canada; Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw Poland; Centre for Clean Water Technologies at the University of Nottingham in UK, etc.). He is an expert on Membrane Science and Technology (Membrane design and Fabrication, membrane processes, emerging technologies), Renewable Energy Applications (solar thermal and photovoltaic energy) and Water Treatment (Desalination, wastewater treatment, etc.) among others. He has coordinated various national and international projects funded by different institutions (EU, Middle East Desalination Research Center, Spanish Ministry of External Affairs, Abengoa Water, etc.). He is currently coordinator of the EU project TEMPUS (Solar Energy System Design using Advanced Learning Aids, 2012-2015). He participated in other national and international projects. He contributed a substantial number of articles (120 papers since 2000 with a total citations 3419 and H-index 33) on the subject of membrane science and technology (The emerging non-isothermal process Membrane Distillation, MD) to various international refereed journals, including among others, Journal of Membrane Science and Desalination. He filed 6 International Patents on the fabrication of membranes and modules for desalination by Membrane Distillation (MD), brines treatments and wind energy. Recently, he has published 3 books. He is also author of other two books, various chapters in books and special issues in Desalination. He supervised various research studies (Ph.D. thesis, master and undergraduate students). He is member of the European Desalination Society (EDS), the European Membrane Society (EMS), the North American Membrane Society (NAMS), and the Royal Spanish Society of Physics (RSEF). He has delivered many oral presentations at international conferences on membranes and membrane processes. He gave various seminars in national and international Universities and organized seminar cycles. He is actually member of the Editorial Board of various Journals. He received the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) 5th Award in 2012 on Alternative Water Resources (Saudi Arabia) for his novel and creative work membrane distillation technology that he has studied and promoted in all its theoretical and experimental aspects (from membrane synthesis to implementation).
