Dr. Giovanni Palmisano earned his MSc in Chemical Engineering and his PhD in Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Palermo, Italy, and joined Masdar Institute as a faculty member in July 2014. Prior to his appointment at Masdar Institute, Giovanni was a post-doc Fellow at the University of Palermo and at the Italian National Research Council in Messina, Italy. His main area of interest focuses on Physical Science Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Chemical Engineering. Dr. Palmisano’s research activities were mainly developed in Italy and Spain and concern Photo-Catalytic processes for Organic Chemistry, Hydrogen production, Water and Air Remediation, and Self-Cleaning Coatings, with a special attention to materials characterization, Kinetics, Modelling of Photo-Reactors and Radiant Fluxes. He is also involved in organic and hybrid Photovoltaics. From 2009 to 2012, he has been Administrator, Chief Engineer and Safety Manager in Hedera Engineering Srl an Italian company operating in design and construction of Photovoltaic Plants in Italy. Dr. Palmisano has co-authored 66 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, five patents, six books and three invited book chapters. He has been invited to offer lectures and serve as chair-person at international conferences and workshops. He has also guest-edited special issues of international journals. He is member of the editorial board of Advanced Chemical Engineering Research and Journal of Advanced Chemical Engineering. His area of expertise includes preparation and characterization of materials based on Inorganic Semiconductors (such as TiO2) to be applied in powdered and supported forms, which own Photo-Catalytic and Super-Hydrophilic properties, preparation and characterization of TiO2 Mesoporous films to be used in Dye-Sensitized solar cells, all these processes take place under Solar Light irradiation and make use of safe and very cheap materials in globally sustainable systems.
