Dr Rahat Iqbal is a Reader in Human-Centred Technology and Director of Applied Computing Research Centre in the Department of Computing at Coventry University. He joined the University in 2001 as a part time Lecturer and he was then appointed as a Senior Lecturer in 2007. Prior to this, he worked for several years in Pakistan, Malaysia and Netherlands. Currently, he is the Principal Investigator of several funded projects including the EPSRC-funded project ‘task-sensitive search recommender system based on implicit feedback using intelligent techniques and two Technology Strategy Board funded projects and three knowledge transfer partnerships projects with local SMEs. He has completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Coventry University, U.K. Prior to this he studied Information Technology at University of Science Malaysia (USM), Malaysia and received the Masters degree in 2000. He has published more than 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals and reputable conferences and workshops. He has also edited 6 special issues of the international journals and 10 workshop proceedings. Dr. Iqbal is on the programme committee of several international conferences and workshops and organizes the annual international workshop on Ubiquitous and Collaborative. He is also a Panelist and Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and a member of the Nuffield Foundation (Science Bursaries and Oliver Bird Rheumatism Programme). Dr. Iqbal has also been editing several special issues of international journals within the field of information retrieval and user supportive systems. He has supervised to completion 4 PhD students and currently supervising 10 PhD students. His main area of research interest focuses on Intelligent Systems, Information Retrieval, Autonomous Manufacturing Systems, and Human Factors.
