Dr. Georg Umgiesser is currently working as Senior Scientist at ISMAR-CNR. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from University of Klaipeda, Lithuania in 2009. He is also working as member of ETWCH-4 expert team of JCOMM on Waves and Coastal Hazards, Lead Researcher at CORPI, Klaipeda, Lithuania, Responsible ISMAR in the MONGOOS (ex MOON) network. His area of research related to Numerical Modeling, Finite Elements, System Integration, Sea-Lagoon Interaction, Physical Oceanography, and Ecological Models. His employment history includes worked as Consultant for Technical Consulting Engineering Company, Scientist at ISDGM of CNR in Venice, 1999-2003 Head of Oceanographic Department at ISDGM in Venice, and Scientist at ISMAR-CNR in Venice. He also supervised 11 MSc thesis, and 12 PhD thesis. He also received grants for his research work. He also served as session chair in 5 conferences. He has 30 publications in journals contributed as author/co-author. His scientific activity includes, Heads a research group on Coastal Oceanography Modeling with a varying number of collaborators, actually the group consists of 4 Fellows and 1 Scientist, and Coordinates and develops a framework of Mathematical Models (SHYFEM) for use in Shallow Waters like the Coastal Zone and Lagoons.
