Dr. Ricardo Gomez-Flores obtained Posdoctoral Fellowships in Microbiology and Neuro-endocrinimmunology by the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at Houston, TX, and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, IL, respectively. His major research projects are related to evaluating the Immunomodulator, Antibiotic and Antitumor activities of Natural and Synthetic Compounds, and evaluating the Fluorescence Polarized Assay for diagnosis of Human and Animal Brucellosis. He is responsible for the research and publications and the animal facilities at the Immunology and Virology Laboratory, and current Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship Incubation and Technology Transfer at UANL. He is a member of the Mexican Research System level 2, and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the Minority Supplement NIH Fellowship Grant (1997), NIH Research Fellowship (F32) (1998-2001), and travel awards from the National Institute on Drug Abuse. He was also awarded the annual research prize at UANL. He has contributed in the Immunology and Microbiology fields particularly in Demonstrating high effectiveness of antimycobacterial drugs after liposome encapsulation; Reporting a new colorimetric assay based in the reduction of the tetrazolium salt MTT by living microorganisms for measuring their growth in liquid medium; Validating the immunomodulating, antibiotic and antitumoral potential of natural and synthetic compounds; and Exploring the neuroendocrinimmune alterations of morphine and novel non-peptidic opioids administration, and heroin self-administration in the rat. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and possesses 12 patents; he has presented his results at national and international congresses (more than 180 presentations) and possesses more than 1200 citations to his scientific publications.
