Dr. Gervasio H. Bechara got his DVM diploma and MSc and PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Sao Paulo-USP in 1972, 1976 and 1977, respectively. Sabatical leaves at Postdoctorate level were performed at St. Barts Medical College in1981 and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (University of London, 1987-1988), Universidad de Zaragoza (2008) and at the Institute for Animal Health, Pirbright (2012). Professor Bechara teaches General and Animal Pathology to Undergraduate students in Veterinary Medicine at the Sao Paulo State University-UNESP, campus of Jaboticabal, since October 2, 1972, and Physiopathology of the Inflammatory Reaction and Immunopathology of the Resistance to Ticks to Postgraduate students since 1990 at the same university. He has published more than 160 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 3 books as co-editor and 5 book chapters, and supervised more than 30 Masters and Doctors focusing on Experimental and Comparative Pathology, mainly on inflammation and host-tick interactions, with emphasis to the immunopathology of the tick-host interface. He has attended more than 100 scientific events being the dedicatee of the 12th STVM Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa in 2014. Moreover, he was affiliated to the Integrated Consortium on Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases-ICTTD, supported by the European Union, from 1997 to 2010, being one of its steering committee members and co-editor of its quarterly ICTTD Newsletter, Councilor of the Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine-STVM from 2001-2009 he is STVM fellow since 2009 and member of several scientific journals editorial board.
