Dr Ing Kong is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering at University of Nottingham Malaysia campus. She completed her PhD in Materials Science at National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 2009. After graduating, she worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with her doctoral supervisor for a year at UKM. She was awarded the Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowship in 2010 and joined Professor Robert Shanks’s group at RMIT University, Australia from July 2010 to September 2011. Her primary research interest is in manufacturing, characterization and applications of functional polymer composites materials, particularly magnetic polymer composites, carbon materials-based nanocomposites, natural fibre reinforced composites, and the synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles and carbon nanomaterials. Over the past five year, she has authored 80 publications including 5 book chapters and 37 refereed journal publications. She have also received 7 competitive external research grants with a total amount of AU$212,500 and 3 contract research funding (AU$75,500). She is currently serving on the editorial board for International Journal of Nano Science and Technology (Since 2012), Journal of Nano Education (Since 2011), Advances in Materials Physics and Chemistry Journal (Since 2011) and World Journal of Engineering (Since 2011). She also actively involves in professional society activities. She is on advisory board for International Community for Composites/Nano Engineering (Since 2008), member of The Polymer Society of Malaysia (Since 2015), Institute of Materials, Malaysia (Since 2014), Australia Endeavour Awards Alumni Network (Since 2010) and Malaysian Solid State Science and Technology Society (Since 2007).
