Biography

My Ph.D thesis examines the sustainability of childhood obesity interventions in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, while my Master thesis was working on mental health literacy among residential college students. I have 3 publications in Medical Journal of Malaysia, Pakistan Journal of Nutrition and Jurnal of Sains Kesihatan Malaysia respectively. I am also writing a systematic review manuscript on physical activity and health promotion, and another qualitative study on obesity intervention. More articles are expected to be published from my Ph.D. thesis.

For international connections, networking and research collaboration, I had an attachment at University of Strathclyde, Scotland with Professor John J Reilly, a Professor of Physical Activity and Public Health Science during my Ph.D. study. A systematic review article was published in 2019 with the collaboration with Professor John J Reilly. I have a good network and collaboration with Professor John J Reilly and also Professor Mike Lean (chair of Human Nutrition, based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary). Besides that, I am collaborating with two Indonesian researchers, Mury Kuswari (Ketua Umum Asosiasi Nutrisionis Olahraga dan Kebugaran Indonesia (ANOKI) and Nazhif Gifari (Department of Nutrition, Universitas Esa Unggul), working on a review paper on behavioural science and physical activity among school children.

As for the latest research networking, I am the only one from Malaysia that obtained the Research Fellowship (one year contract) from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Thai Health, together with another five representatives from Malaysia that involved in the project on “The Developmental of a Comparable and Comprehensive Surveillance System for Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control and Health Promotion”, which is supported by the WHO. I will work closely not only with Malaysian researchers, but also with researchers from ASEAN countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Professor Dr. Supa Pengpid from Mahidol University, the Project Principal Investigator for this project.

For teaching experience, I am a tutor of Health Education Programme at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UKM. Subject that I taught was Behavioural Sciences, which focus on health promotion and behavioural theory. I had the experience in teaching undergraduate students (Biomedical Sciences Programme) and postgraduate students (Health Education Programme and Public Health Nutrition Programme). I was also attached to Sungai Buloh Hospital during my Masters for patient education and health promotion setting in hospital.

I am an active and ordinary member of several professional societies, such as Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM), Malaysian Association for the Study of Obesity (MASO) and Qualitative Research Association Malaysia (QRAM). I joined and presented in the conference every year and volunteering to be part of the conference organizing committee. I am a certified Level 1 anthropometrist by the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). Hence, I am one of the active consultants for healthy eating and physical activity in Nutrition Month Malaysia organized by NSM, MASO and Malaysian Dietitian Association. Not only that, I am also the active consultant for paediatric nutrition for ZURICH Corporate Social Responsibility project. Also, I am the member of the ASEAN Nutrition and Food Science Network, which was first held at Singapore.
