Dr. Mohamad Wijayanuddin bin Ali received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa, USA in 1988. He obtained his Master’s degree in Process Safety and Loss Prevention in 1993 and his PhD in Risk Assessment from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 1997. He started his career as an Assistant Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1990 and is currently an Associate Professor specializing in Occupational Safety and Health. Dr. Wijayanuddin was the Head of Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, UTM from September 2010 until October 2012. He was previously the Head of Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering from July 2006 until September 2010. Before that, he was the coordinator for Chemical Engineering External Program (SPACE) from 1997 to 2006. He was also the Head of Process Control and Safety Research Laboratory from 2003 until 2007 where high quality research and graduate studies take place. Dr. Wijayanuddin also involves in various consultancy projects such as Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) and also Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP). Over the years since 1998, Dr. Wijayanuddin has conducted many short courses to the industries in the area of Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety and health and also HAZOP studies. He also gives Lectures on an occupational safety and health topic for the Penilaian Tahap Kecekapan (PTK) courses at UTM. In terms of occupational safety and health (OSH) activities, Dr Wijayanuddin was a Secretary for the Faculty’s Occupational Safety and Health Committee from 2007 to January 2010. He was appointed as a member of the committee since 2003. For competencency in OSH, he has completed the Chemical Health Risk Assessment (CHRA) course in 2005 and also Safety and Health Officer (SHO) course in 2008. Since 2006, Dr Wijayanuddin was appointed as a team member for UTM internal safety audit for the purpose of Citra Karisma Award at UTM. In terms of research, Dr Wijayanuddin is now attached at Risk Assessment Laboratory, Institute of Hydrogen Economy, UTM since June 2013 as a Senior Research Fellow. Dr Wijayanuddin was also appointed as a Visiting Research Fellow at Safety and Risk Engineering Group, Faculty of Engineering, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada from February to May 2014. In October 2014, Dr Wijayanuddin was appointed as a reviewer for 3rd Scientific Conference on Occupational Safety and Health (SCI-COSH) 2014, in Malaysia. Dr Wijayanuddin was also appointed as an Accreditation Audit Panel for the Executive Diploma Program in Occupational Safety and Health, Razak School, UTM Kuala Lumpur in September 2014. He has published 41 research articles in journals and conferences contributed as author/co-author.
