Dr. Mamun Al Mahtab graduated from Mymensingh Medical College, Bangladesh in 1995. He did MSc in Gastroenterology from University of London, UK in 1998 and subsequently did MD in Hepatology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2006. He is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Mahtab is working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Hepatology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. He has conducted several clinical trials, which have been presented at international conferences and published in regional and international peer-reviewed journals. He has compiled three books, namely Liver: A Complete Book on Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Diseases, published by Elsevier, Comprehensive Text Book on Hepatitis B, published by Jaypee and Fatty Liver Disease published by McMillan. He is serving in the Editorial Boards of several international journals in the fields of Hepatology and Gastroenterology including Euroasean Journal of Hepato-Gastroenterology (journal of Euroasean Gastroenterological Association) and Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology (journal of Indian Association for the Study of the Liver). He has received awards for scientific works from different major international bodies including American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), International Association for the Study of the Liver (IASL), World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL), Japan Society of Hepatology (JSH), Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL), Turkish Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatology Association (HEBIPA), Asia-Pacific Primary Liver Cancer Expert (APPLE) Meeting and Association of Physicians of Bangladesh (APB). He has more than 167 international publications, 246 abstracts and over 50 conference talks to his credit. He is the Secretary General, Association for the Study of the Liver, Dhaka, Bangladesh (the national Hepatology Association of Bangladesh). He is also the founder Secretary General of Viral Hepatitis Foundation Bangladesh, a non-government service provider and research organization in Bangladesh and Executive Council Member of South Asian Association for the Study of the Liver (SAASL). He is a Member of European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and a Life Members of Asian-Pacific Association for the Study of Liver (APASL) and Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL) and many others. His research area focuses on Hepatitis B, HCC, NASH, and Hepatitis E. He is also acting as reviewer for number of journals.
