Dr. A.M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury holds a position of Professor and Ex-Chairman at Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Curzon Hall, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He earned his Ph.D. in Material and Environment from Hokkaido University, Japan. He is having more than 26 years teaching and research experience. Previously he performed his duties as Lecturer, Assistant Professor at University of Dhaka, Dhaka, Invited Speaker & Visiting Scientist at Department of Chemistry, Copenhagen University, Visiting Professor/Post doctorate at Department of Chemistry, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK, Visiting Guest Professor at Georg-August-Universitat Gottingen, Gottingen, Germany, Visiting Professor at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan, and Visiting Professor at Institute of Materials, Ruhr-Universitat Bochum (RUB), Bochum, Germany. Dr. Sarwaruddin received honors includes German an Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellowship, award for Invited Speaker and Visiting Scientist by Department of Chemistry, Copenhagen University, Commonwealth Fellowship (CSC) from University of Leeds, Leeds, UK, Bangladesh Talent Pool Award for Undergraduate studies. Dr. Sarwaruddin is life member of German University Alumni Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Chemical Society, Dhaka, Association of Humboldt Fellows Bangladesh, Dhaka, Bangladesh Association for Advancement of Science, Japanese University Alumni Association of Bangladesh and member of American Chemical Society, Society for Environmental Control in Biology, Japan, and New York Academy of Sciences. He is also serving as member of editorial board in Dhaka University Journal of Applied Science and Engineering and Daffodil International University Journal of Allied Health Science. He also attended number of workshops and trainings. Dr. Sarwaruddin has published 91 research articles in journals, books, and magazine. He successfully supervised 10 PhD thesis and 95 MS/M.Phil students’ thesis. He has completed 7 funded research projects. His main area of research interest focuses on Materials science and Engineering, Materials Physics, Polymeric Materials, Tensile Properties, Utilization of Laser Microscopes, Modification of fibers and fibrous materials by Graft co-polymerization using UV and Gamma Radiation, Laser techniques, Preparation of composite materials by Polymerization, development of the Textile properties (physico-mechanical) of Fibers and Fibrous Materials, Natural Polymeric material studies using modern techniques, studies on widely available plant fibers using polymer materials w.r.t. Bangladesh environment. Natural product science w.r.t. physico-mechanical behavior and Shape memory materials: alloys (SMAs) & polymers (SMPs), SEM, TEM, AFM, NMR, DSC and Optical studies including laser microscopes on the surfaces to investigate modification.
