Dr. M. Oliur Rahman has been serving as a Professor in the Department of Botany, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. His research interests reflect on Plant Taxonomy, Molecular Systematics, and Pharmacological Evaluation on Medicinal Plants. The focus of his research over the past years has been concentrated on Bioprospecting, Ethnopharmacology and investigation of the biological and chemical properties of medicinal plants. He has over 100 research publications in different prestigious international and national journals including some books. He has described 15 new plant species records from Bangladesh. Professor Rahman has made significant contribution in preparing and updating National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan for the Government of Bangladesh; Medicinal Plants Protection Act, Bangladesh; National Action Program for Combating Desertification in Bangladesh; Red Data Book of Vascular Plants of Bangladesh; and Encyclopedia of Flora and Fauna of Bangladesh. Some of the advanced training he received at home and abroad include Genomics and Proteomics; Plant Genetic Transformation, In-situ Hybridization and Bioinformatics; Lab and Data Management Protocols for DNA Barcoding; and Online Journal Publishing Workshop sponsored by INASP, Oxford, UK. He served as the Editor, Executive Editor and Chief Editor of the journal "Bangladesh Journal of Plant Taxonomy" (Clarivate Analytics).
