Biography

I, Dr. S. Jayachandran was born on 20th April 1964 at Chennai. I finished my Bachelor of Dental surgery by 1986 and Master of Dental surgery – Oral Medicine and radiology by 1991 from Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital and heading the same for the past two decades. I accomplished my doctorate in philosophy by 2012 and MBA by 2015. I am a fellow member of various professional bodies like Royal College (Glasgow), Indian science congress, International College of Dentist, International Medical Science , Pierre - Fauchard Academy, Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology, National Academy of Medical Science, Bose science Society, Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and Indian Dental Association. I have received various awards like Tamilnadu Scientist Award, Dr.ML SONI Memorial Award, Louis Pasteur Medal, Best Teacher Award, ISDR Fellowship award, Best doctor’s award ,Best Teacher award Profile of the year (IDA), Sushruta Best Scientist award and International College of Dentists Appreciation award. . I was also the President of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology (National Specialty Professional Body 2014-2015). I have worked in this field for the past three decades and have taught numerous undergraduates, trained postgraduates and guided Ph.D students. I have orated in various national and international conferences alongside guest lectures and research lectures. I am an editorial board member of various national and international journals alongside guide-ship for various research articles. I have resided as scientific chairman and committee member in various national and international conferences. I am also the secretary and member of Institutional Ethical Committee. I have coordinated various undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in the state boards and authored few books. I was the principal investigator of the research grant given by the research council of TamilNadu Dr. MGR Medical University. My areas of interest are oral cancer, precancerous lesions, vesiculobullous lesions, infectious diseases, temporomandibular joint disorders, cone beam computed tomography, autofluoresence, laser and their newer diagnostic and treatment modalities. I have conducted various public health awareness , oral cancer awareness and HIV awareness program. I have organized various days in the department like No tobacco day, Red ribbon club day, Oral cancer day, HIV awareness day and Dentists day.
