Biography

Dr. Smita Nilegaonkar completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1982 and retired in April
2015 as Scientist E from MACS-Agharkar Research Institute, Pune, India. Her area of
Specialization includes nutritional habits of tribal Hindu Mahadeo Koli, Thakar and
Pawara, effect of irradiated salts on oxidation and reduction reactions dyes, biological
and coenzymes, microbial production of industrially useful compounds: methane,
vanillin acid, butanediol, enzymes especially proteases, amylases, chitinases etc,
nutraceuticals-prebiotics & antioxidants. She has published >50 publications in national
& international journals, 6 chapters, filed patents at US, Germany and India. She has
guided five students as for Ph.D. and 35 students for M.Sc./M.Tech. Dr. Nilegaonkar has
attended several national and international conferences chaired sessions and worked
as judges for best paper presentations. She has worked as local branch secretary of
Nutrition society of India, Association of Food Scientists and Technologists, Indian
Women Scientists Association (IWSA), Pune Branch.
