Professor Vinay Kumar Singh, Ph. D., Department of Zoology, DDU Gorakhpur University, born on 15th July, 1969, has a brilliant academic carrier. Prof Singh has involved himself in research on Fasciolosis and its snail vectors control since 1993. Current research interests are Isolation, characterization and biological evaluation of Natural Plant Products and pest control, Vector-Borne Diseases, Toxicology & Pharmacology.
Prof Singh has University teaching and research experiences of more than 27 years. Prof Singh has successfully isolated and identified pure molluscicidal compounds from more than a dozen medicinal plants and observed their mode of action on the snails at cellular level. His work is recognized internationally in the field of formulation and use of synthetic and bio-pesticides for integrated pest/ vector-diseases management. Prof Singh has devised a bioassay method for pesticides using isolated organs of snails. Currently, he is working on the pesticidal property of the different formulations of cow urine of Indian cow breeds singly or synergistically with bioactive product of plant molluscicides. The research publication on fasciolosis control by means of characterized plant derived pesticides, synergistic combinations, bait formulations or by reducing the reproductive capacity of vector/host to limit the population below threshold level which are widely quoted and acclaimed world over.
Prof Singh has published 135 research papers in 81 leading International Journals of repute with impact factor ranging 1-5. Dr. Singh has written 06 reference books- Bioindicator; Pestiferous Gastropods and their Control, Bioecology of Aphis spiraecola Patch., Photo/Chemo Stimulus: A New Approach to Control Fasciolosis, Chlorophyllin and Plant Toxicology & Pharmacology. Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany and also 06 chapters in a book on the topic “Pharmacological effect of spices” in Vol.-2 of book In-Recent Progress in Medicinal Plants- Phytochemistry and Pharmacology (2003), 321-353 and “Medical and Biological Importance of Piper nigrum L.” In Recent Progress in Medicinal Plants Vol. 32- Ethnomedicine and Therapeutic Validation, (2012) Chapter-17: pp-343-360. He has delivered invited talks/ presented research papers in several National and International conferences. Prof Singh served as Organizing Secretary- International Symposium on “Frontiers of Natural Products Research & Human Health & 2nd Annual Meeting of ISLS” (19 December, 2015) organized by Department of Zoology in collaboration with Indian Society for life science and Joint Organizing Secretary in International Symposium on Harmony-2013 (11-13 November, 2013). He has successfully completed one major research projects funded by UGC. Prof Singh is life member of Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Kolkata and National Environmentalist Association (NEA), Ranchi. He is the Editor-In-Chief of Research J of Parasitology, USA & Research & Reviews: A Journal of Toxicology (RRJoT), India. His Malacology lab is the WHO COLLABORATING CENTRE ON FASCIOLIASIS AND ITS SNAIL VECTORS, where work on different aspect of snail control is being carried out. Prof Singh had been nominated as Member of University Court (JNU) by Hon’ble President of India.
Malacology Research Team-Reported First time Nucleotide Sequencing of Fasciola gigantica and their larva cercaria. It is trematode parasite causing Fasciolosis in cattle population as well as human being. A GenBank accession number KT149356 and KT149357 were allotted (online) for cercaria larva and F. gigantica, respectively. Source-www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/KT149357.1 and/KT149357.2.
