Biography

Professor Peter Achunike Akah obtained a doctorate degree (PhD Pharmacology) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 1984, and joined the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as a Faculty member in October 1984. I was promoted to the rank of Professor of Pharmacology in October 1995 at a very young age of 38 years. Was many times the Head of Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and the former Associate Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies and Dean Student Affairs UNN. Have been a permanent member of the Senate of UNN since 1995, and a member of many faculty and university committees. Was an adjunct professor and Head Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, College of Medicine, Imo State University (2006-2019). One time Visiting Professor at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Abuja, (1994-2000). Have served as an adjunct professor of Pharmacology at the University of Uyo, Uyo and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, as well as a Consultant Pharmacologist to UNDP, NIPRD and NAFDAC. I am currently involved in the screening, authentication, verification and analysis of herbal drugs and natural medicines. Have published more than 250 papers, 5 books and 21 book chapters, and have presented more than 70 papers in many national and international conferences. Have supervised 19 doctoral thesis and 55 Masters students. I am currently the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Medicinal Plants Research (JMPR), African Journal of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (AJOPRED 2019-2022), Trends in Natural Products Research (tnpr) and Continental Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CJPS), Academic Editor, Archives of Current Research International and Series Editor BMC Complimentary Medicine and Therapies. A Fellow of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (FIPAN), West African Society of Pharmacology (FWASP), Academy of Medicine Specialties (FAMedS) and a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science (FAS). Acting Vice Chancellor, Imo State University, Owerri, Nigeria (2021-2022). One of the most widely published and cited academics, belonging to 2% of world top scientists. Belong to many learned scientific and professional associations.
