Biography

Dr. Mostafa I. Waly has received his Ph.D. from the Northeastern University in Biomedical Sciences in 2003 and is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, and has been working in the area of Nutritional Biochemistry for the past 13 years. His research interests focuses on understanding the metabolic aspects of oxidative stress in relation to non-communicable diseases, including cancer. His laboratory is also interested in identifying mechanisms of hyperhomocysteinemia-mediated oxidative stress, using in-vitro and in-vivo experimental models. His work has resulted in numerous publications in international peer-reviewed high ranking journals, acquiring numerous research grants from various national funding agencies as well as establishing a network of research activities with international collaborators. On the basis of his ongoing work and based on his publications, Dr. Waly is also very active in training both undergraduate and graduate students in the field of Nutritional Biochemistry.
