Biography
Professor C. O. Nweke received his B. Sc (Hons.) in Microbiology, M. Sc in Industrial Microbiology and Ph. D in Environmental Microbiology from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He has been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the area of Analytical and Environmental Microbiology. He has been researching in these areas with special reference to Ecotoxicology and prediction of chemical toxicity to microbes. Due to the complex nature of environmental pollution, Prof. Nweke and his research team are redirecting their efforts to evaluating the toxicity of chemical mixtures to environmental microbial populations using a number of microbiological responses. Statistical models are employed to predict toxicity of chemical mixtures. Prof. Nweke is also interested in biodegradation of pollutants, bioremediation of environmental media and adsorptive removal of pollutants from solutions. Currently, Professor Nweke and members of his research team are working on biphasic dose-response phenomenon (hormesis) in microorganisms and developing statistical models for characterization of hormetic dose-response curves which are applicable to many disciplines. He has over 40 research papers which were published in both local and international journals.
