Biography
Doctor Tandzi completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of Yaounde I in Cameroon. She got a Master Degree with thesis in the same University. She was awarded a five years PhD scholarship in Plant Breeding at the University of Ghana in Accra through West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) where she graduated in 2014 with her PhD in Plant Breeding. She was also awarded a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Fort Hare, Faculty of Science and Agriculture, Department of Agronomy in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. Her research mainly focused on development of maize stress (low soil pH, drought, heat, low soil nitrogen, combined drought and heat, etc) tolerant varieties. Numerous inbred lines and hybrids were and are being characterized for tolerance to these stresses. She has attended numerous professional short courses and workshops that have enhanced her teaching, research and community engagement capacities. Doctor Tandzi working career started when she was employed as a Technician at the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD) through the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) project on maize production for four years (2006 – 2009). She was eventually recruited as a Scientific and Technical Support Staff at IRAD in 2012. She was subsequently promoted to Chief of Cereal Program from 2015 to 2018. She did part-time lecturing of the course tilted ‘Agronomy and zootechnicsapplied to organic agriculture’ at the ‘Higher Institute of Agriculture, Management, Vocations and Production’ at ‘Fugerolle’, Yaounde – Cameroon. Doctor Tandzi has successfully supervised three Master students; three are still on-going as well as two on-going PhD students. She was granted a seed fund in 2018 at the Govan Mbeki Research and Development Centre (GMRDC) at the University of Fort Hare. She has solid background in designing, monitoring and evaluatingfield, greenhouse and laboratoryexperiments. She has good biometryskillswith packages such as SAS, R, GenStat and JMP. G. She assisted with teaching genetics and plant breeding courses at the University of Fort Hare in South Africa. Many peers reviewed manuscripts were published over the years. Some research outputs were presented in eight national and international conferences. More specific details will be found in the following section of the CV. From December 2018 to December 2019, Dr Tandzi was student at African Plant Breeding Academy class IV held in Nairobi, Kenya. In December 2019, she was appointed as Assistant Lecturerat the University of Bamenda in Cameroonand changed grade in January 2022to Senior Lecturer.
