Biography

Wogayehu Abele received her MSc in Rural Development (Economics) from Hawassa University (Ethiopia) and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Mekelle University (Ethiopia). Currently she is a PhD candidate at Haramaya University in Agricultural Economics program. Since 2014 to present, Wogayehu has been working as an Associate Researcher for the South Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) which is a regional arm of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR). Wogayehu is a dedicated researcher with strong background in theoretical and applied economics, gender studies, agriculture and environment economics and natural resource management, and has got a well-established experience in field surveys, data management and data analysis and writing of academic and policy papers. She involved in several collaborative research projects (with SARI and other organizations), as a researcher as well as Principal Investigator, focused on food security, adoption & impact studies, value chain, gender sensitive and climate-smart agriculture and agricultural productivity enhancement. As part of these research undertakings, she produced research outputs including journal papers, technical reports, Policy Notes and conference papers. Apart from this Wogyehu has a proven leadership skill which has been demonstrated by her ability by leading departments and projects. As a result, she has also won the 2017 Young African Leadership initiative fellowship, which capacitates African youth to become the next African leader.
