Biography
Dr. Maria Margarida Branco de Brito Tavares Tome is currently working as Professor at Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Portugal. She has completed her Ph.D. in Forest Biometry from same Institute. She also participated in International Union of Forestry Research, and European Institute of Cultivated Forests (IEFC). She also participated in number of national and international research projects. She has published more than 89 research articles in national and international journals, 46 abstracts, 81 non refereed conference proceedings, 23 chapters in books, and edited number of books contributed as author/co-author. She also supervised several postgraduate students in her active supervision. Her present research interest focuses on Improvement of methods for forest ecosystem characterization to support sustainability indicators assessment, suitable for a variety of spatial levels: stand, management area, landscape or region, and national; Improvement of forest models in order to cope with the complexity of the Atlantic and Mediterranean ecosystems and with the context of climate, demographic, socio-economic, cultural and political changes; integration of forest models into forest simulators that operate at the spatial levels indicated above, and to develop carbon stock monitoring methodologies for the most important forest ecosystems in Portugal.
