Biography

Dr. Natalia Śmigiel-Gac is an Assistant Professor specializing in polymer science, biomaterials, and nanomedicine. Her research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of biodegradable and bioresorbable functional polymers for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications, including amphiphilic antibacterial polymers, polymeric nanocarriers, and biomaterials for tissue engineering and drug delivery. She has expertise in ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of L-lactide and glycolide, melt transesterification, interfacial polymerization, and functionalization of polymers through selective protection and deprotection of amino and hydroxyl groups. Her current work is focused on amphiphilic biodegradable block copolyesters bearing amino and hydroxyl groups, designed for nanomedical applications as carriers of active substances.
