Biography
Md. Atiar Rahman PhD is working as a professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Dr. Rahman has had his B.Sc honours and M.Sc in Biochemistry from the University of Dhaka (Bangladesh). He has completed his PhD from Ehime University, Japan and postdoc from KwaZulu Natal University, South Africa. Dr. Rahman is a principal investigator of the Laboratory of Alternative Medicine and Natural Product Research and he is carrying out the research to explore the novel and indigenous phytomedicinal and functional food sources as alternative therapeutics to deliver in the cellular target with convenient nanoparticle. His especial interest is type 2 diabetes and chemical induced acute hepatic toxicity. He is as well working on the phytopharmacological and biological effects, of Bangladeshi medicinal plants/plant parts yet to be unveiled. He has been awarded numbers of national and international research grants and awards. Dr. Rahman is serving as fellow of vice president of National Young Academy Bangladesh. He has published more than eighty scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is also working as editorial board members of BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, MedOne, Indian Journal of Nutrition. So far, he has presented his works in Australia, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Japan for academic and extra academic purposes. He published more than 90 articles in peer reviewed journals reputed publishers (mostly Elsevier, Wiley, Springer) such as Phytomedicine, Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy, Journal of Food Science, Journal of Food Science and Nutrition and three book chapters while h-indexed article crosses over 20. He is life member of International Society for Complementary Medicine, American Society for Microbiology, Bangladesh Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Joint secretary), Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists, Bangladesh Society for Microbiology, Bangladesh Society for Biosafety and Biosecurity etc.
