Biography
Dr. Vijay Kothari is currently working as Assistant Professor at Nirma University, Institute of Science Ahmedabad, India. He has obtained his Ph.D. in Natural Products from Nirma University, Ahmedabad, India. Previously he was appointed as Research Assistant at ATIRA (Ahmedabad Textile Industries Research Association) India, and CEPT (Center for Environmental Planning & Technology), and Lecturer at Gyanyagna College of Pure and Applied Science Rajkot. Dr. Vijay has received Bharat Shiksha Ratan Award, and named among the Leading Scientists of the World-2015 by the International Biographical Centre (England). He is a member of 14 different national/international professional bodies such as Biotech Research Society, India, Life Science Foundation, India, Indian Science News Association, Society of Biological Chemists, India, Indian Science Congress Association, Association of Microbiologists of India, Society for Applied Biotechnology, Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy, and member of online community of ICSU (International Council for Science), Paris and member of Literati Network, England. He has guided 49 MSc dissertations, and currently guiding 3 Ph.D. students and 7 M.Sc. students. His biggest credit as a teacher is the successful implementation of the publication oriented dissertation model at the M.Sc. level, and thereby converting students into authors. His main area of research interest focuses on Bioactive (antipathogenic, anti-infective, antimicrobial) natural products, Biological applications of Microwaves, Biological effects of Microwaves; Microwave Mutagenesis, Cell-sound interaction, Halophilic Microorganisms, and Microbial Biofilms. He is on the editorial board/reviewer panel of several international journals, and also acting as an advisor to two companies operating in the area of natural products. Dr. Kothari has acted as resource person during more than a dozen scientific events, within and outside Gujarat. He is also contributing heavily towards the administrative aspect of his institute by contributing as member secretary of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBSC), anti-ragging coordinator, member of IQAC, Board of Studies, Examination coordinator, etc. He has published more than 60 papers/ articles/ book chapters/ books, in addition to 12 conference presentations to his credit.
