Biography
Dr. Zahir Ahmad Zahir holds a position of Professor at Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan. He has completed his PhD in Soil Microbiology & Biochemistry from same University and Post Doctorate from University of California, Riverside, USA. His main area of interest focuses on Microbial Biosynthesis of Plant Growth regulating Substances, Plant Growth promoting Rhizobacteria, Soil Enzymes, Plant Microbe interactions for improving Crop yields, Bioconversion of Organic Wastes into useful Biofertilizers, and Bioremediation of Contaminated Soils. He successfully completed 21 research projects as principal investigator, co-investigator and member of project team. Dr. Zahir is life member of Soil Science Society of Pakistan, Pakistan Botanical Society, member of Soil Science Society of America, American Society of Microbiology, and Society for Conservation Biology, USA, and Plant Growth Regulation Society of America, USA. Dr. Zahir has received number of honours includes Research Productivity Award 2012 from Pakistan Council for Science & Technology, Pakistan Academy of Sciences Gold Medal in Agriculture for 2010 from the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Islamabad, Won four salaries under Better Incentives Programme of the University for the year 2008, Best University Teacher Award 2008 from the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan, SSSP Distinguished Soil Science Services Award from the Soil Science Society of Pakistan in October 2008, Won Postdoctoral Fellowship from Ministry of Science & Technology and completed one year Post Doc from University of California, Riverside, USA and stood Third in the Young Scientist Award competition organized by the Academic Staff Association of the University for the year 1996. Dr. Zahir has supervised 14 PhD and more than 86 MSc student as supervisor and member of supervisory committee. He has published 129 research articles in journals, 7 proceeding, 126 abstracts, 30 paper/poster presentations, 22 technical report, 3 news articles, and 5 Urdu articles contributed as author/co-author.
