Biography

Todd Pharr’s current research area involve studies to understand the development of humoral immunity in chickens. Specifically, this involves projects under the common goal of understanding the basic mechanisms of B lymphocyte development in the bursa of Fabricius. The researcher has conducted RNA sequencing and proteomics analysis to identify the genes expressed at different embryonic stages of bursal development. This work revealed gene candidates for understanding the role of the bursa in guiding B-cell proliferation and differentiation. Prior to joining the faculty at the College of Veterinary Medicine, the researcher focused on the identification of genes involved in the colonization of poultry by Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma gallinarum. The researcher has extensive experience in directing student projects. Since 1998 the researcher has served on 40 PhD and 29 MS student committees (not included as major or minor professor) and provided research training for 22 of the students.
