Dr. Mohamed Ahmed El-Esawi is Lecturer of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Botany Department of Faculty of Science at Tanta University, where he has been since 2003. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Tanta University. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Dublin Institute of Technology, in association with IT Carlow and University of Warwick in The United Kingdom and Ireland in 2012. During 2013-2014, he joined The University of Warwick in UK as a Visiting Research Fellow. Then during 2014-2015, he joinedthe University of Sorbonne-Pierre and Marie Curie in Paris, France as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
He is very fascinated by genetics, genomics, molecular biology and bioinformatics. His research interests focus on using NGS and microarray technologies for genetics and epigenetics studies, investigating the role of natural intraspecies epigenetic variation and its impact on the gene expression and phenotypes, regulation of global gene expression, understanding the molecular signaling mechanisms controlling plant growth and development, crop genomics and transcriptomics, population genetics and evolutionary biology, quantitative genetics, and bioinformatics analysis of datasets. He isalso interested in comparing crop genomes to wild species in extreme environments to understand genome reorganization in stress adaptive conditions. Furthermore, he investigates ROS activation of human as well as drug discovery from microorganisms using biochemical and genomic methods.
He has given numerous talks and participated at more than 40 conferences, meetings, and workshops in highly regarded institutions nationally and internationally. Hegot several awards and grants including DAFF, IRO, COST and other research awards from different international agencies and institutions in UK, Ireland, France, Austria, Belgium and Switzerland. He is an active member of 13 different international professional societies, and an editorial member of 24 international peer-reviewed journals.
