Dr. Salvador Ordonez is currently working as Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technology of the University of Oviedo since 2012. He earned a doctorate in Chemical Engineering in 1999 from same University. He received the Young Investigator Award (<40 years old) of the Iberoamerican Federation of Catalysis (FISOCAT) in 2010 for his research career. Also in 2011 it was recognized by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry as one of the most promising young chemists in Spain in the International Year of Chemistry. His research was conducted by one side in the University of Oviedo and on the other stays at other universities such as Delft University of Technology, Catholic University of Leuven, Polytechnic University of Torino and the University of Berkeley. He participated in 24 R&D&I projects funded in competitive tenders by public or private bodies. His research line focuses on treatment of organochlorinated pollutants in organic wastes, wastewater and gaseous emissions, Catalyst development for the combustion of chlorinated, aliphatic and aromatic VOCs, Characterization of surface properties of adsorbents and catalysts, advanced reactors: Reverse flow reactors, simulated moving bed reactors, membrane reactors. Application to catalytic combustion, chemicals manufacture and coupling chemical reactions (reforming, WGS) with H2 separation, and Catalytic processes for obtaining fuels and chemicals from biomass fractions: deoxygenation of pyrolysis oils, aldol-condensation of sugar-derived compounds, bioethanol condensation, etc. He has authored or coauthored more than 130 scientific papers published in international journals, 130 congress communications, four patents and several book chapters. His research work has been featured in national and international conferences. He has also participated in research contracts and technology consulting contracts with different companies. Prof. Ordonez is also a member of the Spanish Catalysis Society and the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, member of the scientific committee of the Spanish Association of zeolites (GEZ), a member of several scientific committees of various conferences and censor different leading magazines in the field of catalysis, and Process Engineering and Environmental. He also successfully supervised 24 master’s degree thesis and more than 50 Graduate Degree Design Projects and 15 PhD thesis.
