Biography

Dr. Marcello Iriti is Professor of Plant Biology and Pathology at the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Member of the Board of the PhD School in Sciences for Food Systems, Milan State University. He has been studying bioactive phytochemicals relevant for human nutrition and health, including melatonin, polyphenols and carotenoids, focusing on their functional role in planta, as well as on in vitro/in vivo and in human biological activities. Furthermore, he has been investigating the effects of elicitors on plant secondary metabolism, as an approach to obtain phytochemical-enriched plant foods. He is author of more than one hundred publications, including book chapters, reviews (some of which invited) and editorials (Scopus h-index: 24). He is also Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Medicinal Plants. Dr. Marcello is two patent holder naming Phytotherapeutics for the treatment of chemoresistant cancers and Polyamidoamines for the prevention and treatment of plant diseases. He also participated as Invited Speaker, Chairman and Member of the Scientific Committee in International Congresses.
