Dr. Tengku Sifzizul Tengku Muhammad is currently working as the Principal Investigator of Institute of Marine Biotechnology, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Trengganu, Malaysia. He completed his PhD in 1998 at University of Wales College of Cardiff in Molecular Biology. His areas of specialisation are gene regulation and drug discovery. Specifically, his lab focuses on deciphering the roles of transcription factors - members of peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) and CCAAT/enhancer binding proteins (C/EBP) - in regulating the gene expression of important proteins that are responsible in the development of diabetes, atherosclerosis and acute phase response. In addition, he is also interested in using molecular biology based approach in developing target based high-throughput screening platform to screen for potential hits from natural products and chemical libraries against diabetes and atherosclerosis as well as cancer. Currently, more than 70 papers have been published and cited more than 550 times with h index of 14. He supervised 14 Ph.D. and 22 M.Sc. students.
